S. Representatives or Senators. Social issues among African Americans are discrimination and prejudice within the United States and beyond. Many are discriminated against because of their race. Many black men and women are deprived of the earning abilities of that of the White man. They make less money and live in poverty striking communities. Because of slavery, many African Americans feel as though they will never been seen equal to others because of their ancestors. Until this mind set changes, history will continue to run the ideas and future of African Americans. Some cultural issues among the African American throughout history would be being accepted into a culture. Many slaves when freed started large communities made up of just Blacks. Without the same education and opportunities as White men and woman, they fell into poverty and struggled to grow as respected Americans. This permits for crime rates to be higher because they had to survive any way they could if only by stealing to be able to live. These issues among African American still exist today. The NAACP has fought for African American rights for generations. According to ââ¬Å"Naacp: 100 Years Of Historyâ⬠(2009-2013), ââ¬Å"The NAACP seeks to remove all barriers of racial discrimination through the democratic processes. â⬠(Founding Group). The have helped many African American groups with their right to vote because even after they were granted the right, many were still denied. The NAACP has fought along site African Americans to bring justice and rights to those people who worked so hard to become free and receive equal rights in the United States. The United States Supreme Court alleviated slavery, and wrote into law that ll people should be treated equal. They gave African Americans the right to vote and be equals in their communities and states. They also were granted the right to become government officials. Although these laws have been added, discrimination and prejudice still exist in the United States. The NAACP and other organizations have and continue to fight for the rights of African American and other races. African Americans may carry a heavy burden of slavery from their ancestors, but they have become the staples of our culture. Specialists recommend: Winning Academic Essay Writing Delivered On Time From the very beginnings of what we would call a criminal justice system, the general purpose was punitive- to inflict punishment on those who were found to be guilty of committing crimes and finding ways to remove those individuals from society for as long as possible. However, this arrangement still left the victims at a psychological, financial and legal disadvantage. It was from this dilemma that the concept of restorative justice began- a way for victims of crime to be, in essence made whole again after crimes are inflicted upon them (Hopkins, 2004). What has been seen in the development of a system of not just criminal justice but also restorative justice is an integration of restorative justice into the policies of the correctional system, the roots of which began in the modern day in Australia in the early 1990s for youthful offenders. These individuals were assigned to what were designated as Youthful Offender Teams, or YOTs. Within the YOTs, the focus of the correctional process that these offenders went through had two distinct purposes: first, to compensate crime victims in whatever way is required-financial, emotional, psychological; second, to rehabilitate the offenders to avoid recidivism. This system of restorative justice seemed to be more compatible with non-violent crimes, as the perpetrators of these crimes seemed more amenable to making amends for their wrongdoing (Hopkins, 2004). Ironically enough, however, not all youthful offenders are helped by the correctional system, as there are still racial issues within t he juvenile justice system, even with all of the progress that has been made from such ideals as restorative justice. There has been a massive amount of rhetoric over the years regarding the interrelated issues of race and juvenile encounters with police, conviction for crimes, and subsequent punishment, but one staggering statistic puts this issue into perspective: in the United States, nearly 2/3 of juveniles in detention centers across the nation are people of color- mostly African-Americans and Latinos, although within the actual juvenile population of the nation, white juveniles outnumber those of color nearly 2 to 1 (Joseph, 1995). Therefore, the question begs as to why there is such a disparity in these numbers? There is strong evidence to suggest that environment is the link that associates race, juveniles and police/criminal justice exposure. While juveniles of color are far less numerous than white juveniles in the overall population, the numbers of the former that live in poverty stricken and/or urban areas is far greater than the latter (Cose, 2005). When forced into a daily routine of deprivation and the chaotic life that typifies poor city life, youths frequently fall under bad influences such as the false allure of gang activity, the deceptive appearance that dealing in illegal contraband is a way to advance oneself in society, and the frequent lack of positive role models (Roberts, 2004). Because there are more minority youths to be found in the urban setting than non-minority youths, the minorities are exposed to negative stimuli more frequently and have less opportunity for the education and mentoring which builds strong moral character, all of which in turn results in them having more encounters with law enforcement and the corrections system as a whole. The problem of a bloated criminal justice system appears to have a strong tie to the issues of cultural and racial diversity. Regardless of race or culture, individuals in a diverse society tend to migrate toward their own ethnic/racial group to the exclusion of others, and it is within these groups that gang mentality often sprouts as does other types of criminal-type activity (Chancer, 1994). While the evidence suggests that cross-cultural criminal justice does not appear to be the most effective approach, the integration of cultural diversity within the criminal justice system does. For example, in the African-American communities across the US, there have been countless examples of African-American law enforcement personnel serving as positive role models for the youth in their communities, and thereby being able to reach out to the youths before criminal activity occurs. This has manifested itself in community outreach programs and the like (Joseph, 1995). In conclusion, what has been seen as a result of this research is the fact that cultural diversity is an essential ingredient in effective criminal justice systems and can serve as a safeguard against juvenile delinquency as well as the fact that restorative justice does work in some situations. From a larger viewpoint, perhaps the most important point to take away from this research is that the justice system needs to evolve along with the increased diversity of the modern society. Medical Ethics in Islam In our lives, we often face difficult decisions, some relating to life and death, medical ethics. Should I donate a kidney so that another may live? Should I turn off life support for my brain-dead child? Should I mercifully end the suffering of my terminally ill, elderly mother? If I am pregnant with quintuplets, should I abort one or more so that the others have a better chance of surviving? If I face infertility, how far should I go in treatment so that I might, Allah-willing, have a child? As medical treatment continues to expand and advance, more ethical questions come up. For guidance on such matters, Muslims turn first to the Quran. Allah gives us general guidelines to follow, that are constant and timeless. The Saving of Life ...We ordained for the Children of Israel that if any one slew a person - unless it be for murder or for spreading mischief in the land - it would be as if he slew the whole people. And if anyone saved a life, it would be as if he saved the life of the whole people.... (Quran 5:32) Life and Death are in Allahs Hands Blessed be He in whose hands is the Dominion, and he has Power over all things. He who created death and life that He may test which of you are best in deed, and He is Exalted in Might, Oft-Forgiving. (Quran 67: 1-2) No soul can die except by Allahs permission. (Quran 3:185) Human Beings Should Not Play God Does not man see that it is We who created him from sperm. Yet behold! He stands as an open adversary! And he makes comparisons for Us, and forgets his own creation. He says who can give life to (dry) bones and decomposed ones? Say, He will give them life who created them for the first time, for He is versed in every kind of creation. (Quran 36: 77-79) Abortion Kill not your children on a plea of want. We will provide sustenance for you and for them. Come not near shameful deeds whether open or secret. Take not life which God has made sacred except by way of justice and law. Thus He commands you that you may learn wisdom. (6:151) Kill not your children for fear of want. We shall provide sustenance for them as well as for you. Verily the killing of them is a great sin. (17:31) Other Sources of Islamic Law In modern times, as medical treatments advance further, we come across new situations which are not described in detail in the Quran. Oftentimes these fall into a gray area, and it is not as simple to decide what is right or wrong. We then turn to the interpretation of Islamic scholars, who are well-versed in the Quran and Sunnah. If scholars come to a consensus on an issue, it is a strong indication that it is a correct position. Some examples of scholarly fatwas on the subject of medical ethics include: Organ donation is permissible as long as no financial incentive is given, and no permanent harm comes to the donor.Euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide are prohibited.Mechanical life support should be continued until brain-death or imminent death has been confirmed by a physician or team of physicians, in which case it can be withdrawn.Ã Assisted reproduction is allowed as long as it is done with sperm and egg between husband and wife.Late-stage abortion is condemned unless necessary to save the mothers life. For specific and unique situations, a patient is advised to speak to an Islamic scholar for guidance.

2 Forms of the Imperfect Subjunctive in Spanish Why are there two forms of the imperfect subjunctive, such as hablara and hablase? Do they mean the same thing? The -se form might be considered the traditional form of the imperfect (or past) subjunctive, while the -ra comes from an old Latin indicative form. Over time, the two verb forms came to be used identically. Today, with a few regional exceptions, the -ra form has basically replaced the -se form, and so it is the -ra form you should learn. When used as the imperfect subjunctive, the two forms are interchangeable. The -se form is sometimes known as a literary form because it is used much less, but there is no difference in meaning. Examples of the Imperfect Subjunctive in Use, Showing the -raà Form Si fuera fcil yo tocarà a el piano. (If it were easy I would play the piano.)Espero que à ©l estudiara con cuidado. There are ââ¬â¹very few cases where the use of the -ra form as an indicative verb form has survived in modern Spanish, although you will seldom hear them. In some parts of Latin America as well as some areas near Portugal, you may hear the -ra form substitute for the pluperfect (e.g., fuera instead of habà a sido to say had been). There are some speakers who use the -ra form of haber as a substitute for the conditional, that is hubiera conocido instead of habrà a conocido for would have known; that usage can also be found occasionally in literature. In these rare cases where the -ra form is used instead of the conditional, the -se form cant be used as a substitute for the conditional. It isnt important to learn these variations, but it can be helpful to remember they exist in case you come across them.
